Volunteering with the Centre for Multicultural Youth

Posted: 18th Apr

Ucan2 is a partnership between AMES Australia, the Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) and Foundation House. It recognises the need to provide additional support for young people (16-24 years) who are newly arrived to Australia and from a refugee or migrant background.

The CMY component is delivered with the support of committed and passionate volunteers who encourage and support young people through group activities.

What are the time commitments?

Ucan2 runs one day a week for 6 months (16-18 weeks) at multiple sites across Melbourne, Tuesday, Thursdays or Fridays.

Ucan2 Volunteers attend their allocated site on the same day of the week, approximately 2.5 hours in the afternoon, anywhere between 12.15 to 3.45pm.

*Please note: allocation to sites and exact session times may not be confirmed until close to the start of the semester.

What do Ucan2 volunteers do?

Through a variety of group activities, Ucan2 Volunteers: share their work, study and life experiences in Australia; act as positive role models, help young people practice English; and help foster young people’s confidence to make social connections and develop their skills.
